SELF DEFENSE MOVES ALL WOMEN SHOULD KNOW.

If you're a woman, you've probably experienced a nervous, stinking feeling when walking alone at night, fearing what's lurking around a dark corner. There's also a good chance you've felt your heart rate speed uncontrollably when you thought you were being followed or maybe you were actually followed and even worst attacked. At some point you've probably asked yourself, 'Would I be able to defend myself?". Well maybe you'll be able to if you learn these few self defense moves that could give you the skill and confidence to fight back.

Straight Punch

MOVE #1: STRAIGHT PUNCH
Commonly called a straight right by many, this move is used if someone is in front of you and you feel threatened. First you give verbal commands asking them to remove themselves from your personal space, if this does not work a straight punch can be very effective. Push from the ball of your foot and thrust your hip and fist forward at the same time, which will maximize your strength.

Front Kick to Groin

MOVE #2: FRONT KICK TO THE GROIN
Similar to the straight punch, the front kick to the groin is a very effective move to a vulnerable spot that can help you go on the offensive. To deliver this kick, drive your hips forward with your knee bent and heel back, then extend your knee and leg force, making contact with your attacker's groin area with the top of your foot (the area where the shoelaces are). This strike can give you enough time to get away.

Knee Kick

MOVE #3 KNEE KICK
This move can be used if the attacker is too close to your body and you can't throw a straight punch, in this instance kicking with your knee is the best option. Once the attacker is in your personal space, powerfully drive your knee using the bony tip straight up into the groin area. For more power in your knee kick, if you can try and hold the attacker between the neck and shoulders, holding on to as much skin, muscle, or clothing as possible.

Bear Hug Defense

MOVE #4 BEAR HUG DEFENSE
If the attacker tries to bear hug you, a common type of move when it's a male attacking a female, when the attacker grabs you from the back or front around your shoulders. The best defense for this is to drop as low as possible towards the ground and twist as much as you can to wiggle your way out of the attacker's grip.

MOVE #5 CHOKE DEFENSE
If your attacker starts choking you, you might immediately move your hands towards your neck. However, instead of trying to pull the attacker's hands off your neck, use your hands like hooks, with your thumps against your pointer fingers and hands in a "C" shape, pluck at your attacker's thumps. If your successful with doing this, it will be harder for the attacker to maintain a choke, giving you time to strike back and escape (if you and the attacker is face to face use a knee kick). Be mindful that you only have a few seconds to do this before you start to lose oxygen and pass out.
